ServSafe Class Sample Video

We offer some of the most effective and entertaining food safety classes in the country.  We have lively interactive lectures without making you sit through hours of boring slides.  What makes a food protection class interesting? ....THE INSTRUCTOR!

You can view a video sample of a class just to the left or you can look at the upcoming food protection class and exam schedule.  We can also schedule a private class at your establishment for any number of people. (see below)

Most courses are 8 hour classes conducted in one single 8 hour session or occasionally conducted in two, four hour sessions (see individual class listings for details).  You must score a 75% or higher to become certified in food safety. This certification will satisfy all health department requirements in Massachusetts, New England and across the country.  There are a few exceptions so check with your local health department.

If you register for a one day course, we will ship the textbook in advance. You must allow time to read the book if you want to pass the class. If you register for a 2 day course, you will receive the textbook on the first day of class.  Each class listed in the links below can accept students for their original certification, renewing their expired certification or for repeating the test if they failed the previous time.

 

Open Full Class: $189. The 8 hour class includes: 6 hours of lively instruction; 2 hours of exam; the textbook; the exam; classroom materials; and complementary lunch, coffee and beverages;  a ServSafe exam* and your ServSafe  or NRSFP Certificate (if you score a 75% or better on the test!) * We use the NRSFP exam for our Spanish Classes or by special request.

Open class options:

  1. Full Class includes class, test, textbook and lunch - $189 per person*
  2. Class, test and lunch (no text book) - $160 per person
  3. Book and Test (no class or lunch) - $129 per person
  4. Test only (No class, lunch or textbook) - $100 per person
  5. Training only - class, lunch, textbook (no test) - $154 per person

Class Schedule & Registration>>

The requirements in Massachusetts and most other states are the same for first time certification and re-certification. You must pass one of the 3 accredited exams (we use ServSafe or the National Registry for Food Safety Professionals.) There is no requirement for any specific training.

*Rhode Island requires 15 hours of classroom training for a first time certifier and 6 hours of classroom training as a re-certifier. Our open class does NOT qualify for Rhode Island first time certification but does qualify you for re-certification in Rhode Island.

Certification Course Re-test: $75 (for BFSC students taking the test for the second time within the last 12 months)


Re-certification Class and Exams: (those who need to renew an expired certification)

This is the same class but as a re-certifier you may feel you can pass the exam without the full class,  so all the same options are available. Our experience is that the exams are much harder than they were 5 years ago and would suggest that at a minimum you read a new book to be sure you are up to date

  1. Full Class includes class, test, textbook and lunch - $189 per person*
  2. Class, test and lunch (no text book) - $160 per person
  3. Book and Test ( no class or lunch) - $129 per person
  4. Test only (No class, lunch or textbook) - $100 per person

*Only the full class will qualify you for Rhode Island re-certification

 

Class Schedule & Registration>>
 

Open Retests: $75  If you are a BFSC student that has recently failed the exam you will need to take the exam and perhaps the class again.  The cost is $75 to retake the exam. If you wish to take the whole class again with the exam the cost is $100. You must register by phone and have recently failed an exam at one of BFSC's  classes in the last 2 months to receive this discount. 617-445-1647. This option is not available for online purchase.

Food Safety ClassPrivate Classes: ServSafe, NEHA and NRSFP. We will come to you! A private class will cost about the same as our open classes when you have 8 or more people to train. You will also save time and  money by eliminating the need for travel! We have instructors, textbooks and exams for English, Spanish and Portuguese speakers.

Private 8 hour course:  ServSafe and NRSFP Certification is valid for 5 years.
Option 1: Closed Course
$975 per course plus $75 charge per person for textbook, training materials, certification exam and certificate. Bringing a private class for your employees allows the instructor to focus on your type of business.

Option 2: Open Course
$875 per course plus $75 charge per person for textbook, training materials, certification exam and certificate. Open your course to other students and in addition to the lower initial fee we will lower that fee an additional $25 for each outside student that attends. We will advertise the class on our website and in our promotional materials. We may get 1 person or 10 who knows! We require 6 weeks notice to organize the open course.


Private 4 hour recertification course:   Certification is valid for 5 years

Closed Course Only
$550 per course plus $75 charge per person for textbook, training materials, certification exam and certificate. This is an accelerated course for those who have been certified in the past.


Private 15-hour course:
Certification is valid for 5 years

Option 1: Closed Course - $1850 per course plus $75-$95 charge per person for the textbook, training materials, certification exam and certificate. Bringing a private class for your employees allows the instructor to focus on your type of business.

Option 2: Open Course - $1750 per course plus $75-$95 charge per person for textbook, training materials, certification exam and certificate. Open your course to other students and in addition to the lower initial fee, we will lower the fee an additional $25 for each outside student that attends. We will advertise it on our website and in our promotional materials. We may get 1 person or 10 who knows! We require 6 weeks notice to organize the open course.
